S.H.A.P.E.S. is a group for adults with learning difficulties and meets primarily during the morning service to learn more about Jesus. We sing together, pray, read from the Bible, do some activities related to the story and share a cup of tea or coffee. The groups usually takes place in the Coffee Shop in the Viewfield Centre. If you would like to know more about SHAPES, please contact Mary-Jane Kirkland or the Church Office.
Children’s Church takes place very Sunday morning of the year (except when there are All Age Services) and caters for children aged 3-14. After participating in the start of the 10.30am service, we go down to the hall for activities which include games, stories, quizzes, videos, drama etc. all based around the theme or Bible Story for each week. We use the Scripture Union material which covers the core passages of Old and New Testament in a three year cycle. Each Sunday we start off with an introductory activity with all the children which gets them thinking about the theme for that week. We also have a prayer activity together and sometimes some songs. We then split into four age groups: “Bubbles” for pre-school children, “Splash” for P1-3 children, “X-stream” for P4-7 children and “The Grid” for S1-S3.
The crèche runs during every Sunday morning service and caters for children under the age of 3.
We have two toddler groups which run each week during school term time and meet in the Church Hall. One on a Tuesday from 10am until 11.30am and one on a Thursday also from 10am until 11.30am. There are many different things to play with including ride-on toys, children's kitchen, dressing up clothes, a climbing frame with slide, books and craft items. The cost is £1 (per family) each week (and free for babies under 6 months), which includes a snack and drink for the children, and tea, coffee and biscuits for the adults. All pre-school children are welcome - including babies.
Viewfield Baptist Church regards the protection and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults as a priority. You can view our safeguarding policy here.
Men's Breakfast is an open and friendly group who meet in the Coffee Shop on the second Saturday of each month between 8am and 9.45am (come when you can, leave when you need to). . After some chat and bacon rolls we move on to a short Bible study and prayer. Our sessions are both informal and confidential - we don’t ask people to do anything they’re uncomfortable with.
Small groups are a vital part of our life together. When we meet on Sunday there is never time to do much more than say hello to each other, but in small group there is the opportunity to build relationships so that we can encourage and support one another, and celebrate together when appropriate. Often small groups pursue their own curriculum and occasionally we pursue a single theme as a whole church, and sometimes linked to the Sunday preaching and teaching. Small groups also have their own style of worship, study and prayer. In general we try to organise groups geographically, but having said that we don’t allocate people to groups but do encourage everyone to get involved with a group. No one will mind if you visit more than one group to find one you feel at home in. Contact the office for more information.
Knit & Natter, Craft & Chatter is a friendly group of around 15 to 20 people that meets in the Coffee Shop at 10am each Thursday. There is the opportunity to chat to each other while knitting or doing other crafts.
Scouts Groups (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) meet in the church on a weekly basis. Contact the office for more information.
